The movie is an action drama about two college friends, who live very different lives after leaving the city. One is a small-town cop and the other an educated young man. When they reunite accidentally at a wedding in Goa, they both realise that their lives have been changed by this meeting. The film begins with two college friends Vikram (Saif Ali Khan) and Rahul (Deepika Padukone) having a drink on a rooftop of a building in Mumbai, India. They discuss the problems of their lives and Rahul criticizes Vikram's life as a cop while Vikram complains about Rahul's life as an engineer due to his mother wanting Rahul to get into the family medical business. After saying good-byes, Rahul leaves and after Vikram gets his drink, he sees a lady out of the corner of his eye and they begin talking. The woman is Ranjeeta (Farhaan Behl). Vikram then goes into a room and sees Ranjeeta's mother Manjula (Kulbhushan Kharbanda). After she is done with her phone call, she is visibly shocked to see him and comes over with her feet in the air. Vikram then says that he has seen her before as as if she didn't even know him as Manjula states by saying "Vikram? We haven't met for ages... I thought you were dead. I thought I was dead." Vikram then notices her ring on her finger and realizes that Ranjeeta is Manjula's daughter. After she leaves, Rahul comes into the room and Vikram tells him what Manjula had said about him thinking that he was dead. Then the two of them go to the elevator to leave only to see Ranjeeta getting off of it with a man. The two of them look at each other for a few seconds before the elevator starts moving again.
